More about this scene
The Trustee Savings Bank building, on the right, was formerly the office of Stroud's Conservative newspaper, the Stroud News. Its Liberal rival, the Stroud Journal, occupied the premises in Lansdown from which its joint successor now operates. The cinema on the left, which opened in 1913 as the Empire, was later rebuilt in 1935 as the Gaumont and was the Mecca Bingo Hall when it closed a few years ago. The property is currently being re-developed.
