More about this scene
This view looks east towards the Cock Hotel and the High Street crossroads. The 1909 police station in Carshalton Road is in the distance. Behind it is the side elevation of the Congregational Church of 1888. This was demolished in 1976 to make way for the eastern inner relief road. Out of sight on the left, behind the old telephone kiosk, was the Cheam Road Cinema of 1911, a stylish and grand building whose frontage block was removed in the 1970s and replaced by a bland blank façade. It is now the night club 'Legends'.
