Tilehurst, Roebuck Ferry House 1899

More about this scene
This is one of many ferries across the river, now almost all gone. The ferryman's cottage remains, but is now inaccessible and very private, with the river path blocked by a gate to its east. Behind is the London to Bristol main line railway, and on top of the tree-clad river cliff bank is the Oxford Road.
