The north coast of Cornwall is extremely hazardous for shipping; after numerous wrecks and petitions to Trinity House, a new lighthouse was built on the Head in 1847 with a range of over 20 miles. The enormous fog-horn trumpet was here from 1913 to 1964, and measured 36 feet long and 18 feet high. A more powerful foghorn replaced it, but its noise caused some people in Padstow to complain.

Trevose Head In The 1960s
I was interested to read the lady's memories of the area and of the toll gate ladies at Mother Ivey's Bay. We had a a wonderful May holiday staying at Crugmeer Farm and visiting such places as Trevose Head. I have a lovely photo of my father by the lighthouse. He died last year and this spring we took our sons, now in their twenties to visit this beautiful place in his memory. There were 2 seals ...see more

The Sisters
I first visited Trevose and Mother Iveys Bay around 1969/70 with my grandparents. I was 7 or 8 on my first visit. I have continued over the years to visit, first with my husband-to-be and sudsequently our children, and we will return as a couple this year, our boys having grown up and talking of visiting this wonderfull place with their partners. Holidays
I remember camping for 2/6d a night. Mrs Dane (I think) ran the site. Having too much cider, trying to surf. Walking to Trevone Bay, eating in beach cafe run by Ron, and his son Chris looked after the car park. Went back last year, 2013 not much has changed. Padstow the nearby fishing village is now called Padstein!!

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
