The Troutbeck valley is one of the most peaceful in the Lake District, and in this view, taken from the old coach route between Windermere and Penrith, the essentially rural nature of much of the district can still be appreciated. The white-painted farmhouse in the valley was probably occupied by one of the district's famous 'statesmen' farmers.
