Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

Adjoining Clarence Park is the slightly smaller (14- acre) park surrounding Holmefield House. This private estate was developed in 1833 by the Wakefield solicitor and Clerk of Barnsley Canal Company Thomas Foljambe (1775-1851), part of a larger scheme to build a number of grand houses. Only Holmefield House was built (it was much altered by Major Barker from 1864), although Foljambe built a large house on Thornes Lane from stone discarded during the construction of the Manchester & Leeds Railway at Horbury. His workers at Thorne Mills erected a drinking fountain to Major Barker's memory in Clarence Park in 1893.

Sparrow Park
I was brought up on Rufford Street and most children in the surrounding area played in Sparrow Park at the top of the street next to Beaumont's Farm , who delivered our milk daily measured into our own jug. The Park only had swings and a ranty but there was usually a rope swing on a tree by the beck where those daring enough to swing and let go might, or often not, clear the water and land on the far side of the beck. ...see more

Wakefield Clarence Park
I 'lived' in Clarence Park for years when I was a kid. It became my magic Kingdom! I knew every bush and tree and secret trail through the bushes. I would lurk in the bushes and spy on people walking past. I had a favourite tree - a huge beech next to the bowling green. I would climb high in it and sit quietly watching them bowl, hidden by dense leaves. I'd whistle and call to them and put them off ...see more

The Roundabout
The Roundabout use to be a popular place for me to go, it was a public house just a short distance from the Wakefield Jail. I was somewhat surprised on chatting to one man at the bar (I was somewhat interested where he lived) he smiled in such a way that I found it hard to believe when he told me that he lived in the biggest mansion within the whole of Wakefield which had hundreds of rooms and big gate. Bull Ring And Market
I have just been back to Wakefield for a short break. I knew what to expect before I set off. But still don't know whose idea it was to do away with the old Bull Ring which I thought made it look more like a city. Why take away such a good market? It was one of the best, plus the indoor where I used to buy my records in the 1970s. But overall I thought the place looked clean and tidy when I visited ...see more

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
