More about this scene
St Hilary's is the old parish church of Wallasey. There are not many churches dedicated to this saint, and this church is also unique because of its two towers. There has been a church on this site for over a thousand years. Twice a fire has destroyed the buildings: the lone tower dates from a church built in around 1530 which caught fire in the 1850s. The tower was saved, and the new church, seen behind, was built slightly away from the old tower.
