More about this scene

Walton-le-Soken was an agricultural and beachcombing parish that expanded into Walton-on-the-Naze in the 1820s. Its early visitors were upper-class people who had summer homes here. Even the Pre-Raphaelites came. The arrival of the railway in 1867, and the 1872 National Bank Holiday Act, opened Walton up to everybody. The High Street was laid out when Walton became a tourist destination, with shops to cater for most needs.

Walton On The Naze

We as a family would go to Walton on the Naze and stay at Barkers Hotel from 1960 (when I was born) until 1976 (when I went to work) every Whitsun. It turned out that my Grandparents also used to go to this hotel from the early 1950s. Holidays In The '60s And '70s
I remember my father owning a couple of caravans on a site towards the naze end, Westcliff rings a bell, i recall walking thru the camp site along the backwater and exiting at Mill st, into High st where there used to be a favourite shop of mine that sold Airfix model kits and Lego, the pier was also a great place to visit as young lad, plenty of rides to go on. Martello Camp
hello, My wife remembers going to Martello camp in Walton on the naze for holidays from the childrens home in Hornchurch in the late 1940 to 1950. They stayed in army style tents and kept all their gear in the Martello tower out of the rain! any one remember?

The 1960s In Walton Hard Times!
I moved to Walton in the 1960s after my dad died. We lived in a caravan at a park up the Naze as we were homeless. I went to school in Stanley Road when I was 14 and went for a month or so and never went back, nobody cared! Got a job as a labourer on Castle Estates at 14 and spent 10 hours a day carrying bricks up a ladder. Had a girlfriend who I still love who was a few years older than ...see more

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
