Warrington, Bridge Street From Town Centre c.1950

More about this scene
This view down Bridge Street, looking towards Bridge Foot, shows the impact of the redevelopment of the earlier 20th century. The west side of the street (right) was completely rebuilt between the 1880s and 1908 to create a much wider thoroughfare. The distinctive chequer-board road crossing and chained railings suggest that 1950s pedestrians were finding traffic more of a hazard.
