More about this scene
This view will be familiar to users of Sainsbury's petrol station today! The old premises on School Brow had been rebuilt in 1863; but as pupil numbers grew, and Rylands' Wireworks encroached on the site, land for a new school in Latchford was bought in 1924. The new building in Grammar School Road opened in September 1940.
