Warrington, The Circus And Bridge Street c.1950

More about this scene
There's not an elephant in sight at Warrington's Circus! Warringtonians would probably describe this as Market Gate, but Frith's view records the original concept of 1908 to create four matching corners, 'a spacious circus, perfectly symmetrical in shape with a ring of singularly graceful buildings'. Piecemeal redevelopment of Market Gate prevented realisation of this ambitious scheme.
