Lived at the royal hotel in 1973 my parents first free house dickinson . Memories as a child going up coupes playing all day in barns and sheds good days
I was born in 298 Burnley Road East on August 18th 1945. The Nurse who delivered me was Nurse Bowe, who was a good friend of my Gran's (Teresa Whittaker, nee O'Brien). All my Aunties and Uncles were born in that house, as were my two sisters, Anne, in 1944 and Lynn in 1954. My grandmother used to take me to Waterfoot every day from Warth bridge to get a daily comic. I can still recall the titles, Lion, Beano, Topper, Knockout, Eagle etc. I used to make a beeline for the toy shop at the top of the arcade. There was a fruit shop and the owner had two large Airedale dogs, well they looked old to a boy of under 5. There was Holts the butchers, and Savilles where I used to be ...see more
I would just like to add my memories of the Manning family. As a child growing up on the Edgeside estate in Waterfoot I remember Michael Manning from the bakers, he was a lovely man always smiling, and his sister Maria ran the chip shop on Edgeside estate where we used to go quite often. I have fond memories of Edgeside Piercy School and the park, and my old mate Steven Crew - if anyone knows where he is these ...see more
