Woolworths
A Memory of West Ealing.
Woolworths for a small boy had a certain fascination, well for me it did. Firstly I remember being bought a tin plate trolley bus by my mum. It was Empire made. There were the arms on the roof just like the real one we had come on from Hanwell. Next the peanuts, they were in a sort of chrome box with a light bulb over them, so they were warm. My they tasted good when your mum passed down the bag to you. Very, very, greasy. Next were the records, Woolworths excelled here. They had their own make called Embassy. If you could not afford the full price of say HMV you could get a Embassy with a unknown singer or group doing apretty good impression of the actual top ten disc at a very cheap price. The irony is people pay well now for these.
