Caption for Wethersfield, High Street C1965: The now-demolished barn in the foreground was the premises of Wicks Contractors, land developers, builders and undertakers. The Wicks family also owned the 17th-century Briar Cottage, next door. The tenements with the crowstepped gable beyond were built as almshouses. They are now minus their veranda.
