More about this scene
The cottage, built in 1824, served as the local post office; like the rest of the small hamlet, it is part of the Stonyhurst estate. Jesuit monks arrived from Normandy in 1794 and founded a college in the hall. Amongst its pupils have been Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Charles Laughton, and the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins taught there.
