More about this scene
A Benedictine abbey stood just off the town square, a vast church that dated from Saxon days. At the time of Dissolution of the Monasteries, Henry VIII gave the people of Winchcombe the opportunity to buy the building. They declined, and instead used the abbey as a source of building materials.
