My maternal family have lived in Wray unbroken from the end of the 19th century to now. My mother was born in 1912, one of ten children; 7 girls and 3 boys. I was born at Alcocks Farm and attended Wray School in the early 1940s before we moved to Arkholme. My Auntie Lucy was the headmistress at Wray School (Mrs Lucy Bateson) and the teacher in charge of the infants class was a Mrs Roberts. I also remember the Rev Bell being the Vicar at Wray and I think he probably christened me, he certainly christened my brother. My grandparents lived in Roeburn ...see more
