More about this scene
The Crown Hotel, pictured here, is typical of many that were built in the middle years of the 20th century to cater for a population that was newly mobile, thanks to the availability of cars. It still serves exactly the same purpose today, although it has been taken over and has now changed its name. The sign at the far end of the car park tells us that in the 1950s the hotel had a swimming pool.
