More about this scene

The tower fell in 1770 and has been replaced by a brick bellcote. Near the priest's door is a monument for the Rev John Hall and his wife Emily, who were with the Church Missionary Society in Palestine for 26 years. He was vicar here for 14 years; she died in 1920, he in 1921. Side by side lie two Westleton war casualties, Private Jonathan Cracknell, aged 18, who died in 1918, and Pilot A Clouting, aged 20, who died in 1942.

Wartime Westleton

Hi, My father Alfred Bell was in the Royal Artillery 136 Field Regiment and was stationed in Westleton in 1940 but did training in Dunwich as well. I have got a photograph taken on the green of a few of his comrades in uniform, he is sitting in the middle. The seat was round a tree (which was just a sapling then, I think he said the cookhouse was on the green as well with various huts as well for supplies. I ...see more

Edward Charles Friend
Edward Charles Friend was my father. His first wife died in 1930, he married my mother in February 1933 and I was born in December that year. Dad died in 1957, aged 88, and active until about three weeks before he died. He was a wonderful man, everyone loved him, I would love to know more of your side of the family please.

Eddie Friend, Miller And Millwright At Westleton
My great great uncle, Edward Charles Friend, was listed on the 1901 Census as miller and wheelwright at Westleton.  He was born at Wenhaston 10 April 1869, the ninth child and fifth son of Samuel and Sarah Friend (nee Driver) who married at Easton on 1 October 1849.

My British Friends
My name is Alan Trageser and I was an American Airman living in Westleton from 1981 to 1985. My son was born at Ipswich hospital. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
