Mother Stay At Hut Hotel
When my Mother died in 2000 we found a letter saying my mother nee Mary Kingston and her friend stayed at the hotel . The lake had frozen and they went skating on it at Christmas time . She would have been about 12 at the time making the date 1932 . Unsure if that would be correct but the letter was interesting to us as she was sent to school in the area but was brought up in South Wales .

Skating By Night On The Frozen Lake At Wisley
In the 1960's I lived in Papercourt lane Ripley, when The Lake froze over and a bunch of us enjoyed an exhilerating few hours skating freely. Wouldn't be allowed today. I've just written a poem about skating and have included this unique,unforgetable experience.

Hut Hotel Wisly Cobham Surrey England

My Great grandfather Henry Pulling ,Grandfather Harry and Aunty Sis,all lived at the Hut Hotel .Great Grandad was the proprietor.When when he died Gandad and auntie Sis took over.Aunt Sis told me how people would come for a day out and go rowing on the lake.The ladies would drink tea in the tea rooms and the men would have drink .In those days they turned up in the cars of those times and were pretty well off

Woolgar Woolger Of Surrey
I have been researching my family for the past 15 years and have found that my family came from, Wisley, Ockham & West Horsley. My 3rd Great Grandfather William Woolgar/er was an agricultural labourer and lived at Old Pond Farmhouse with his wife Sarah Maskell & family. Woodger. Austin,Stanley.
I have just found that my family on my grandmother's side came from Wisley. Some lived Ripley, Byfleet, and Ockham, but most Wisley. 1841 1851 records onwards. Their name Woodger worked Park Farm.Pond Farm. The Hut. Wisley Lane. Wisley Farm. Wisley Common. There was a James 1786 Ripley. John 1791 Ripley. And a Richard 1775 West Horsley. Wisley
I lived at Church Farm, Wisley and loved it, as the country was nice, and I liked being able to play in the fields and on the farm, and collecting eggs. I also went to Wisley church on Christmas Day to go to communion after making comfirmation on 22nd December 1955.

Teenager To Retirement!
I would like to dedicate this photo to my Mum, Sue Dykes who has worked in the restaurant at RHS Wisley Gardens since the age of 15! Starting with part time seasonal work as a waitress to full-time baking and is due to retire next year. Sue is well known for her delicious cakes and even has her own recipe cards which you can pick up at the cafeteria in Wisley Gardens. My great grandad was also employed at RHS ...see more
