More about this scene
This busy mill, powered by the waters of the river Roeburn, ruled the lives of cottagers in the 17th and 18th centuries. Situated on the main street, many dated stone cottages housed the mill workers. The mill is now a private house. Captain Cuthbert Bradkirk came from Wray, near Carnforth. He was in charge of Clitheroe Castle after it was damaged by Prince Rupert's army. He repaired it, but he and his men had to leave hurriedly when news came that Cromwell's army was marching through the Ribble Valley.
