More about this scene

Dating from 1926, the war memorial was opened by the Earl of Derby, though its cost was borne by Caleb Thornber, a cotton manufacturer and former Mayor of Burnley. The old plantings around the memorial probably date from 1803; if so, they are the work of Charles Towneley.

Cleaver Street
Born in Búrnley about a hundred years ago - lived @ 70 Cleaver St from 1974/6, then moved all over the place; now in Herts -sun shines more but they don't have any hills!

Duke Bar.
I was brought up on Cleaver St. Remember what a lovely shopping area Duke Bar was. .Mrs Tattersalls. Spencers Bakery .Dewhurst Butchers. Wilkinsons Dainty shop. Redmonds Grocers Mrs Bells and Rennie cloggers on Hebrew Road..Every Thing you needed on your doorstep.Brilliant.

Hapton Valley Pit.
I've just read about a man who worked at Platers and Stampers for a year and hated it. I worked at Hapton Valley Pit for 2 years and in that time helped to carry out 3 dead bodies on separate occasions. I decided that it was not for me and decided also to join the RAF in late 1955. Pheasantford St
My uncle lived at no 6. Does anyone remember them from the 1920's they were the Brooks and lived there into the 90's!! I lived in Belvedere rd in the 40's and remember visiting them in Dukebar.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
