It was
originally built for Daniel
Burton, a bleacher of
Rhodes; it passed to Salis
Schwabe, who bought
the bleach works and
built the famous Rhodes
Chimney.
Decimus Burton's impressive arch is topped by a decorative frieze

were on display in the British Museum.

Other than Burton, brewing in Staffordshire received a
shot in the arm with the opening in 1992 of the Lichfield
Brewery, which produces such delights as Resurrection Ale
and Xpired.
The New Pier (it dated from 1891) runs along the skyline of this view of the seafront, with its former Boundary
Archway (separating Burton's town from Hastings) on the right.
