Only 17 years before this picture was taken, girls were admitted to Eggar's Grammar School for the first time. Then, there were 36 boys, including 8 boarders, and the Headmaster was G J Poole, MA. By 1920, the head was the Rev Ernest Alfred Crewe Stowell, BA, and pupil numbers had risen to about 150.
