Alton, Rustic Bridge At Ashdell 1897

More about this scene
This bridge is the subject of many local photographs. It was built by Frederick Crowley, who lived in a large house called Ashdell, which lay to the right. The lodge to it can just be seen in the distance. Just behind the fence on the right is the dell itself, after which the area is named. In the past, it was used for producing lime.
