More about this scene
One of the most picturesque - and most photographed - rows of cottages in the Cotswolds, Arlington Row's first function was a barn. Then in the 17th century the building was converted into home workers' cottages for weavers in the wool trade. Traditionally, weavers' cottages had stable doors; the top half was left open so that passing traders could see the quality of the work in progress. Arlington Row is now owned by the National Trust. In the foreground is the River Coln.
