Burnley, Victoria Hospital 1906

More about this scene
This photograph shows the Victoria Hospital after the construction of Thornber Gardens, which were laid out in 1897, the year of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, at the expense of the Mayor of Burnley, Alderman Caleb Thornber. Notice smoke rising from a chimney behind the building. This is a reminder that Burnley was an industrial town. Frith's photographs tend to avoid industrial views of the town.
