More about this scene
From the late 19th century the agricultural estates of Castle Bromwich were sold off for house building to accommodate overspill. The 1930s was the start of the biggest housing boom, which continued intermittently until the 1980s, when the last farmland was sold. Hurst Lane leads to Shard End Estate, the land for which was bought by compulsory purchase order in 1945.
