In August 1874, Derbyshire County Cricket Club played Lancashire at Chesterfield, using Chesterfield FC's facilities at Saltergate recreation ground. On becoming a first-class side in 1894, Derbyshire's home games were confined to the County Ground in Derby. With the opening of a cricket pavilion at Queen's Park, Derbyshire CCC returned to Chesterfield in July 1898 with a match against Surrey.
