More about this scene
Witley Court was one of England's grandest stately homes. The land around once belonged to the Cookesey family, but was bought in the 1600s by Thomas Foley, who had made his fortune in the iron trade. His grandson, Lord Foley, built this mansion in the Italian style in 1725. This lovely old building burnt to the ground in 1937.
