This creek on the River Wyre near Poulton-le-Fylde has become part of a modern marina. The white building beyond the sailing boat (center left) is Wardley's Hotel. The three pointed gables to its left belong to the 1824 warehouses in which guano, flax and cotton were stored (it was pulled down in 1965). The ancient ports of Wardleys and Skippool near Hambleton Creek handled slaves and ships from Russia. 19th-century visitors to the creek came for 'Hambleton hookings', large mussels which sometimes contained a pearl.

Wardleys Memories

Spent many many happy school holidays at Wardleys caravan park in the early to mid 1950s , around 1953-1956, I used to go with my mum for the whole 6 weeks holiday period, we stayed in my uncles chalet that he had built on the caravan site , which was then just a field & the other caravans were round the perimeter of the field leaving the centre of the field open. Walking To The Shop
In the early 50's, I remember walking to the shop when I was quite young from my home in Market Street. Then it seemed quite a long way, with hedges and ditches beside the footpath. There was a large house that took up most of the land from Ryecroft Corner, and then a greenhouse that grew the most beautiful chrysanthemums in the autumn. Shovels Inn 1952 To 1971
My grandparents, John & Betty Whiteside, were Landlord & Landlady of The Shovels Inn 1952-1971. I was born in 1955 and clearly remeber the pub as it was then, before they tore down walls! The old men of the village taught me how to play dominoes in one of the little rooms that used to be off the main bar. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
