More about this scene
John Ruskin praised this old market town fulsomely, saying it had moorland, sweet river, and English forest at their best. Markets have been held here since medieval times. In the past it was an important coaching stop on the roads to the North. The Waverley Cafe, opposite the Cross, advertises Lune Salmon Teas, no doubt freshly caught from the local river.
