Kirkby Lonsdale, The Royal Hotel 1914

More about this scene
This hotel was originally known as the Rose and Crown, but changed its name in 1840 after the Dowager Queen Adelaide, widow of William IV, convalesced here while touring in the north of England. The town's old squares and elegant Georgian buildings bring it a timeless charm. Cloth-capped local men, hands in pockets, stand outside the hotel in the rain, perhaps waiting for transport themselves.
