The Rose and Crown is dated to 1641. The town's main hotel, the Royal George, is mentioned in Mrs Gaskell's novel 'Cranford'. Elizabeth Gaskell taught at the local Unitarian chapel Sunday School, and she and her husband William are buried in the chapel yard. Elizabeth became a very close friend of Charlotte Bronte and wrote her biography.

Goodbye Mr Chips
Whatever happened to Mr Chips Chippy ?. Had many an enjoyable meal from there 37 years ago when I worked in Knutsford. It was a very good chip shop. How time flies.

Glebelands School
Did anyone on this site go to this prep school. I was there in the late 1950's... Would live to hear from you. Anne (Boden) as was.

Shaw Heath Estate
We moved to knutsford when i was 4 (1960) we lived at 2 summerfields and then moved to 14 southfields it was a brand new house ! I played out all day with my friends , matt moonie, bobby millward , david pye, the hornes, jonathan henderson . I went to crosstown school , i remember mrs cromwell jones ,the dinner shed at branden drive which is still there. Then norbury booths when i was 7 , i remember all the fund raising for the outdoor pool ! Ahhh they were the days !

Battles On Knutsford Heath
In the 1960's/70's - (can anybody tell me the actual date?) when the Tatton Estate was being broken up, there was an attempt to secure the Heath for built development. The Knutsford Freeholders who had 'ancient rights' for grazing etc.. over the Heath (and, of course, to hold fairs thereon - especially the May Day) had to go to the High Court to defend these rights. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
