More about this scene
The main street and good shopping centre is made more pleasant by the Victorian glass arcade, useful in wet weather. J P Wood the grocer's (left), with Robert Taylor's shoe shop next door, faces a busy baker's shop across the street selling Turog loaves. The Picture Post placard outside a newsagent's (right) reads: 'The man behind the cancer treatment'. Cars and fashions bespeak the 1950s.
