I lived in 14 west street from birth 1962. to 3 years , My great Aunt Jane Penny (Davies) lived there for years looking after a lady. When she died, the house was left to My aunt Jane.
My mum and brother and me, moved just up the road, but cannot remember the house number. But I know the wall of the house we used to live in, is still there with a path running up the side of it.

I, my sisters and my cousins often spent our summer holidays in the 50's with my Grandmother (Ivy Eddy nee Bryant) in her cottage by the culvert as shown in the photo of the creek. The boat wreck in the picture was a sailing barge owned by the Eddy's for hauling coal up to Millbrook from Devonport. My father used to take us on the cremyl ferry across to Edgecombe and then we would bus it to Millbrook..
Sometimes we would be greeted by flood water in the quay and along the road into Millbrook.. scary for a small child at the time

I read Steven Mewtons memories with interest. I too, was born in 1952 and often stayed with my Gran, aunts and uncles at No.5 Silver Terrace. She was Mrs Knight and my father was Jim, with brothers John, Fred and Alex and two sisters Mary and Elsie. I spent my school summer holidays in Millbrook from the mid 50's to the mid 60's - and every one was wonderful. I stayed with my grandparents, Mr and Mrs Ede, at 85 West Street, Millbrook. The house is long gone albeit the address still exists. My grandfather used to take me and a 'rabble' of cousins and young uncles camping at an area we called 'Palm Rock' on the Cremyll Road; in later years we moved and camped ...see more
I moved to Millbrook in 1950 and spent my formative years there - it was a great place to grow up in. We lived in Myrtle Cottage, next to my uncle's farmyard. We used to roam the countryside for miles with never a worry. It was such an adventure living there; out exploring in the school holidays, from Millbrook to Whitesand bay was our playground...happy days.
Hi, I was born in 1952 at Silver Terrace, Southdown, lived there till 1965, went to primary school at Blindwell Hill. I still have relatives living there, lots of older relatives buried there. Great memories of long summers wandering around Sango and the pits. The old Southdown social club, we used to have great fun on the jumping walls, all of which are now sadly gone. My great grandfather was born in Millbrook in 1822. He apparently was an errant youth who was transported at age 16 years to Tasmania, Australia. On all his documents he maintained his mother was Sarah Samuel (Samble) but his baptism records show his mother to have been Sarah Griffiths - the mystery remains unsolved. My grandma and grandad lived in New Street, Millbrook. I remember as a six-year-old going to see them and going to the 'swan pool' at the bottom of the road and feeding the swans.
Grandma died in 1966 and Grandad came to live with us in the Midlands. My great-great-aunts lived in East Looe and the last time I visited there was 1969/70.

For Roy Bryant whose message I recently read on Millbrook Memories. I too had Bryant relatives living on West Street Millbrook in 1840s. I believe your Richard Bryant is the brother of my Gt Grandfather Thomas Bryant. Their father William certainly died at 37 West Street on 18th Sept. 1870 and his death certificate states that the registrar was informed by one Richard Bryant present at death.
