I worked at the Hotel Continental as a receptionist in 1979, my boyfiriend was the restaurant manager and we got married in the August and were given a day off and had an informal reception in the bar afterwards. I worked in the Hotel Continental in the very hot summer of 1976 with 3 friends. It was a glorious summer season and the sun shone endlessly, so we spent many lazy days (between work shifts!) on the beach. We danced into the early hours in The Hole in the Wall club to the latest music, one song that springs to mind is 'Don't go breaking my heart' by Elton John and Kiki Dee. I drove past this building yesterday and am sad to see what an appalling state in which it has deteriorated. I remember this Hotel in the 1960s when it was a hive of activity with a full complement of staff (just a few months ago I met the lady who used to be the Housekeeper there for a few years). I spent one or two weeks here around 1977. I remember the pool and it was the year of the ladybird infestation they were every where. My parents and I would often talk about our holiday there, we have photos somewhere I'm sure. How sad that it's not there today.
