More about this scene
On 10 February 1943 a hit- and-run raid by a single Dornier plane caused a great deal of damage in Newbury. Fifteen people died, including elderly women and young children, and various buildings were destroyed – among them St John's Church. Nearly 300 houses and shops were damaged, some so badly they had to be demolished. This picture shows the new church.
