It is now a National Trust shop and information centre. Note the old petrol pump on the extreme right.
The parade of shops remains, but with 21st- century changes. Today the chimney has gone, and the windows have recently been replaced.
This is summer: awnings give shade to the shops on one side of the street, and one of the boys holds a cricket bat.
This was one of the principal shopping streets of the town, though the Methodist New Connection chapel and the Salvation Army Hall were also along here.
Inside the entrance were many tempting shops, including a confectioners and refreshment rooms.
Here there was space for forty-three shops and over 100 stalls. In addition, a fish market offered sixteen choice counters.
This photograph was taken outside the 13th-century church of St Dubricius, and shows Isaac Burgess standing beside a horse and trap outside his bakery.
Here we see evidence of early tourism in the area with a wonderful display of post-cards in the shop on the right.
On the left, the Draper's and Tailor's shop we saw in 1901 has been replaced by Marlborough Conservative Club.
The shops to the right show physical evidence of Luton's ability to graft 20th-century fronts onto 19th-century buildings.
The Peter Sellers and Robert Morley film 'Battle of the Sexes' is showing at the Odeon, but also of interest is the Thrift Shop, an early attempt at a discount store.
The shop on the right is insured with the West of England Fire and Life Insurance Company.

Much of Grange was constructed during the later 19th century from local stone and slate, and there is a pleasing uniformity to the buildings that line its principal shopping street.
Looking towards the Bull Ring from Union Street, we see (right) the rebuilt Strafford Hotel and the former shops, now a café bar.
Sparks Electrical retailers can be seen on the left, while also visible is Whitby's camera shop on the right, just a few doors up from the Wimpy café which opened in the early 1960s.

Friar Street was an odd assortment of buildings, including a number of 15th- and 16th-century half-timbered houses and shops.
The building is now a private house, its responsibilities usurped by more modern shops a little further along the road to the left.
The shops still exist but all have changed their functions.
The large building in the centre was erected in 1879 on the site of an earlier small shop.
