Note the blinds down on the shops on the right.
The Red Lion public house, the Water Works and Coulsdon Library on the east side of Brighton Road contrast in style and date with the Victorian terraced houses and shops opposite.
On the right, a shop front has been added to an earlier building. From the pavement the change would be almost invisible.
On the right are 1930s and 1950s shopping parades. The concrete plank fence on the left is still here, and screens a Thames Water depot.
The Hoops is no longer an inn, and the premises are now used as a shop.
This view shows the bank before its additional floor and new façade were added. Today's traffic has brought lights around a much-reduced traffic island, which has lost the trees and shrubs.

Another view of Derby Road, Swanwick, a little further north, opposite Willgoose's newsagents shop, on the left.
