More about this scene
In 1839 Christ Church was opened to cater for the spiritual needs of the expanding suburb of shoe workers to the north of the town. The vicar was also chaplain to the County Lunatic Asylum, the Infirmary and the Workhouse. With declining congregations, it closed in 1976 and was later demolished to make way for a Sheltered Housing scheme.
