More about this scene
The foundations of the 10th-century church of St Bertelin are laid out adjoining St Mary's behind the middle bench. It stood until 1801, and was used as a grammar school and as the council chamber. The church- yard was levelled and laid out as a garden of remembrance in 1956. A new building, now McDonalds, stands behind the church.
