Stow's ancient cross in the Square served as a reminder to market traders in medieval times that they should not try to pull the wool over their customers' eyes. A plaque on the cross commemorates Joseph Chamberlayn, who gave £2,000 to install a fresh water supply to the town.

My relatives lived in Stow in the 1600's. George Churm married Anne Spurrior on the 29 Sept 1695 at Stow Church. George's father, George, was born at Stow in 1630; his father Lawrence was born
in 1600 and married Anne(?) at Stow Church in 1620. Please contact me if you have any further info into the Churm, Spurrior ,Lawrence , Cairn or Webb families of Stow or Wyck Rissington.
