I was in stowlangtoft hall with my brother Dominic Attard my sister Maria Attard my name is Rita, I believe I was only 6months old my brother was about 6/ 7 my sister about 3/4 years old ,I do remember having a sleep in the afternoon and playing in the big garden,a small bridge that went over the small stream I think we left when my brother reached a certain age..we were moved to Hornchurch cottage homes. Hi my name is Rita i don't remember much about my time at the hall as I was only 7months old in 1957 when we arrived Luckily my sister Maria Attard and brother Dominic Attard were a bit older, my sister was 3 years old and brother was 6 years old. I worked for Tower Hamlets childrens dept.In 1965.I was employed as a House Mother at Stowangtoft Hall and the matron at the time was a Sister Ennis. I was only 18 at the time.Have very fond and happy memories of my time there.
Typing this memory on behalf of my mother-in-law, Doris Leadbitter (now Doris Sidebottom) who worked as a nursery assistant between January 1946 and June 1947. Hi, I've recently removed an old photo of my sister & myself from one of my deceased father's photo albums. I always assumed this was in our back garden as there is only grass in the picture. On the reverse it says Stowlangtoft, Bury St Edmunds. I do recall being in a Children's Home near Bury St Edmunds and this would have been in 1961 or 62. Don`t have any memories of the Hall but am searching for anyone who lived there when it was a Childrens Nursery which was run by London County Council. Have had some info on the place & know a Miss Yorath was Matron during my stay there. Is there anyone out there who can help my research?
