I lived at 460b Lordship Lane in Tottenham from 1941 -1950 with family and grandparents,aunts and uncle.I attended Risley Avenue Junior and Infant school before moving to a flat on Scales Road and joining Down Lane Junior School for the final term.Went on to Parkhurst Secondary Modern School for boys until I was 15,left to join Pickfords as the office boy/messenger then joined Hackney Wick Greyhound ...see more
I moved to Tottenham when I was 5 yrs. We moved because of my dad’s work which at the time was Hope and Anchor Brewery, and then merged with Charrington’s Brewery, in Tottenham Brantwood Road, my dad delivered the beer to various pubs and clubs all around London. We actually lived in the High Road, No 776, which was next to a dairy depot, so didn’t have far to get our milk! We lived in a large Georgian house ...see more
Does anybody remember Jim's Cafe in The Hale? Jim was a lovely old guy, quite short with white hair and ridden with Arthritis. Always had a fag in his mouth, never complained about anything, always working hard. The cafe was frequented by all the locals, workers and kids alike. The entertainment was a Juke Box and I would think that most of Jim's turnover came from huge quantities of tea ...see more
Barry Watkinson I remember the Royal. I was born in Tewkesbury Rd. When I was 10/11 we moved to Tottenham Hale. We visited the Royal regularly - there was a young teens on a Saturday afternoon. We had some old friends from Tewko like Duggy Hamilton & family the Hawkins ,the Turners Bob Martin Jimmy Belcher the Hills family John ,Margaret ,Ray, and another girl who sadly died I am still friends with John ...see more
