Nostalgic memories of Woking's local history

Share your own memories of Woking and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

I was ophthalmic house officer at St Peter's (Chertsey) and "Woking "Vic" in 1966. Miss Iris Kane was the Consultant. She worked hard and taught me a lot. Now a housing estate, I believe. I attended 1972-77 before everything went comp and it closed. Miss Hill was Headmistress and quite the disciplinarian. No running in the central corridor, gels.
I lived in Horsell and did my SEN training at Woking Victoria Hospital between 1969 and 1971-there were 9 of us in my class and our tutor was Mrs Mockett. The family then moved to Kingfield Road and I joined the Navy as a Nurse. I went to Goldsworth Junior and Secondary Schools and for a while worked in Lloyd Davies the chemist. Woking has changed so much since I lived there, and it is not the same as it was.
My school, Greenfields, did our carol service at this church every year. Brings back beautiful memories.

We made friends with all the children on our road and spent hours playing in the woods which backed on to our road. In the winter we went sledging down the steep slope of our road. I went to Greenfields School which again I have fond ...see more

My sister and friends would stop and fish for newts or frogs - especially when tiny frogs appeared in the spring, which would make us late home - obviously we got told off for being late. I loved that bridge it has happy memories. I now live in ...see more
