More about this scene
Near the entrance to Worksop College, on Sparrow Hill (the old road into Worksop), are the lion gates and one of the many lodges and gateways into the vast 3,000 acre grounds of Welbeck Abbey, built for the Dukes of Portland. It is one of the Dukeries, as this part of Nottinghamshire has been called since the 18th century. This view of the 1894 gates was taken from within the grounds, with the corner of the lodge on the left.
