A Long Time Ago

A Memory of Lowick.

I used to stay with my Aunt in Lowic in late 1950/1960. She lived in the centre of Lowic
from what I remember - possibly opposite the pub. Her name was Hilda Bird and she had
a daughter Hilda Joan - known as Joan.
She lived in a house and I remember we used to have to get our water from a pump!!
Her daughter Joan married Tony French and they lived way up Drayton Road. They had
four children Peter, Richard, Cherry and Timmy. (Sadly Timmy was killed in the mid 1980's)
Joan later moved into Lowic more - I think it was the Old Bake House in Drayton Road.
My aunt is buried in the local church with her husband and her parents are also there. Timmy and Tony
are also buried there, and upon a recent visit last week I discovered that Joan was buried next to
them, the grave unmarked, but i found out from a local person it was Joan.
Joan had moved to Thrapston with Cherry some years back, but we did lose touch.
I was very young when I stayed at Lowic and can just remember my holidays with my aunt.
I did go to Timmys funeral, but that must have been the last time I visited until last week.
I did stay in touch with Cherry, but sadly over the years lost touch.
I know she has moved away from Thrapston, but do not know where. Peter and Richard
are living in areas fairly nearby but don't know where.
Any information anyone can give would be greatly received. You may know of someone who
has a relative who remembers the name Bird or French and who knew of the family. Lowic is a small
place so maybe an elderly relative can remember something.

Many thanks
Penny Berry (maiden name Mason)

ps My grandfather Sidney Houghton came from Lowic also and got married to my grandmother
Mary Kennel, in that Church.
