Fullers Mead Childhood

A Memory of Potter Street.

We moved to Fullers Mead in 1953/4 just after I was born, to the house on the right hand side with the lamp post outside (just down from the bus stop) my brother was born in the house in 1955. Dad still lives there, bless him.
It was a great place to grow up. Lots of friends to play with and fishing at Mill Pond right down the end of the road and the newest and best sports facilities you could want. I left in 1976 to live in Devon.

Like you, I also moved to Fullers Mead (No. 111) in 1954 when I was just four years old, and although we moved away in 1964 I still have vivid memories of my wonderful childhood spent there and often wonder what became of all my old school friends from Potter Street Primary and Brays Grove Secondary school.
I can remember all the shops at nearby Prentice Place and going into "Welford's" to buy sweets and comics on the way to and from school.
I also used to go fishing at Mill Pond and can remember many carefree happy hours playing out in the street (which you could do quite safely in those days!).
It's so good to be able to see these photographs of the area as it was at that time. It certainly brings the memories flooding back.
My 3 brothers and I moved to Perry spring in 1962,I was 6 years old.We had a fantastic child hood and great fun fishing at Mill Pond and numerous trips to Prentice Place for shopping in Welfords and the hardware store, and not to forget Muffetts the chip shop.It really was a great place to safely play out.I have wonderful memories of having fun with my friends and family there.
