Styal = Happy School Days

A Memory of Styal.

I went to this great school around 1979 - 1983. I remember some of the great teachers including Miss Curtis, Miss Bowcock, Mr Holland, Mr Burroughs, Mr Bolton, etc. Some fellow class members were Paul Renshaw, Gary Kilby, Steven Riley, David Evans, Ian Brookes, Chris Cochran, Jackie Goodwin, Tracy Wheeler, Lorraine Mulvihill, Pretty Patel, Deborah Patterson, Deborah Burns, etc.

Nothing but happy memories. Great teachers, fab school in lovely countryside surroundings. I remember Oak House, Beech/Hawthorne House etc. I would have liked to stay here permanently, (it was so much nicer than the Manchester surbuban schools in Burnage/Gorton and Wythenshawe).

I then went into work then college and university to study music and filmmaking. This was the best school I ever attended. Sad to hear it has now been incorporated into Styal Prison. Trips to Quarry Bank Mill and Styal Woods were particularly enjoyable...But I was not keen on Mr Bolton whacking us 14/15 year olds on back of our legs during school runs up/down Styal Rd!

Sadly, my mum died last year, and my sister three years ago, and my older brother is now in bad health. But they were great schoo days and happy memories. Any long lost school friends feel free to contact me here on my email: marcbleakley@aol.com or 07947723070.
